Kutya

[5 SP per Serving] This is a Ukrainian dish traditionally served on Christmas-Eve. But I love this dish so much, I often will make it at any time through the year. It makes a fantastic breakfast. This recipe is a slightly healthier take on my Baba's recipe (which included extra white sugar).

Information

  • Makes: 25 servings
  • Source: Ryan's Healthy Recipes (this blog)     Author: RyanK
  • Prep: 20 min     Cook: 5 hours

Ingredients

3 cups wheat berries, uncooked 51 SP
½ cup poppy seeds 11 SP
1 cup chopped walnuts 24 SP
½ cup honey 32 SP

Instructions

  1. Rinse the wheat, then cover with water in a slow cooker. Make sure to add a lot of water as the wheat will soak it up.
  2. Cook on high for 3 to 4 hours or until the kernels start to burst open.
  3. Drain and rinse the kernels, then add more hot water, the poppyseeds, the honey and the walnuts. Cook until you reduce the broth to a porridge like consistency.
  4. Serve hot.
